"We are confident that this is the very best team with the best skills and capabilities to successfully build Cape Wind and create hundreds of jobs in the region," Cape Wind president Jim Gordon said.

For NStar customers on Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard, the extra cost of Cape Wind's power comes to about a quarter penny per kilowatt-hour, or about $1.

Cape Wind officials say they expect to begin construction in 2013.

Boston-based Cashman Equipment is well-known in New England for operate on large dredging and marine construction projects.

"It's a perfect fit for what we do," company president Jamie Cashman said Tuesday.

Cape Wind's opponents, however, continue to push on a number of fronts, including challenges in federal court regarding the project's approval by the U.

"I think it's going to be very hard pressed for anybody to see these things from land," Cashman said, deflecting the long standing opposition to the project.

Cape Wind has sold three-quarters of its power in separate deals with National Grid and NStar.

Although construction may not begin for some time, design work will commence this summer, Cashman said.

"We have some individuals who dredge who work with us right now who graduated from Massachusetts Maritime Academy," he said, adding that he plans to hire two more graduates from the Buzzards Bay college in the not too distant future.

Although Cashman Equipment doesn't have several employees, some of them hail from Cape Cod, Jamie Cashman said.

Cape Wind's supporters argue that the bump in electric rates from the project is minimal and that the environmental advantages of the project make it worth the cost.
