Caring for Your Driveway or Patio

Caring for Your Driveway or Patio

A driveway or patio is one of the major expenses in home improvement and once put in place needs to be maintained and cared for carefully to ensure it lasts for a long time.

CLEANING A commercial pressure washer is the ideal piece of equipment to carry out the cleaning along with any solution required to remove stubborn stains.

Block paved driveways and patios have been increasingly popular over the last 2 decades and laid properly to manufacturers specifications should last indefinitely with correct maintenance. The most important part of this process however, is the stabilising of the jointing sand to prevent erosion through wind, rain and ants and ensuring the driveway retains its designed strength and integrity. This is not always completed by cleaning companies and undermines the strength of the driveway leading within just a couple of seconds to movement, weeds and unsightly joints.

SEALING/JOINT STABILISING After cleaning and re-sanding, the driveway or patio must be sprayed with a weed-reducing solution, then sealed or sprayed with a joint stabilising solution. It is imperative that after cleaning, the block paving is re-sanded right away. Once repairs are carried out properly the maintenance work can begin.

Movement caused by poor installation or inadequate drainage needs to be rectified as fast as possible before carrying out further maintenance.

Paved areas with slabs need similar maintenance, although re-pointing of the joints using a wet mortar mix is the correct process for paving.
