Lightning hits chimney at Grove Friday's storm brought a little excitement to Waynesboro when lightning struck the chimney at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home on South Broad Street at 5:40 p. "No damage was done to the interior, just the chimney," Assistant Fire Chief Mark Dale said. The chimney took it all. The National Weather Service in State College issued a tornado watch and severe thunderstorm warning for aspects of the state until 9 p. There is still a chance for precipitation through the weekend, but nothing severe. Bill Gartner, a meteorologist with the NWS in State College, said this morning most of the rain fell in Lancaster and York counties. Friday. No other damage or flooding was reported in this area. There was no fire anywhere, not even a burn mark. The scene was cleared by 6:30 p. The funeral home was built on South Broad Street in 1951, according to its website. "My wife and I were eating at the Virginia Avenue fire station when we saw this white streak between us. The storm system that moved south from Canada brought at least an inch of rain to the area, and caused a roof to blow off a building at 9486 Buchanan Trail West in Mercersburg. We knew it hit somewhere," George "Tinker" Rowe, a driver with the Waynesboro Volunteer Fire Department, said at the scene. "The rest of the weekend will be nothing like yesterday," he said. Gartner said the storm front will linger in the area until the middle of next week when temperatures will climb back into the 70s. |
