Parade of Homes: The Marketplace Neighborhood takes a bow in the Kalamazoo Home Builders show

Have you been to the Marketplace Neighborhood?

It's the brand new section of the Edison Neighborhood southeast of downtown Kalamazoo that is adjacent to the Kalamazoo Farmer's Market.

The houses are three-bedroom, Craftsman-style abodes built in one of two general floor plans in the $130,000 price range. McGraw said developers hope to have the last of the Marketplace homes sold by February of 2013.

The development has been funded with federal grant dollars and administered by the Kalamazoo County Land Bank and the city of Kalamazoo.

The fourth phase of the development is to be completed in time for the Home Builders' Fall Parade of Homes, which is Oct.

Buyers must be at or below 120 percent of the median income level for Kalamazoo County. It is $51,240 for a single person.

Four of the homes are being featured in the Home Builders Association's 22nd Annual Parade of Homes, which started Friday (June 8) and continues through June 16.

They range from homes in the $100,000 range to those above $500,000, including a lake house in Hickory Corners valued at more than $1 million.

Of the 17 homes built, 10 have been sold and offers have been made on four, McGraw said.

McGraw said the houses were designed with young families in mind.
