Police flyers advise on theft protection RESIDENTS living in units in Liverpool's CBD can expect police flyers advising them how to better protect their stored items from criminals to lob in the letterbox this week. " Constable Bonomo and his team of volunteers began the latest drop on Monday, with flyers outlining tips for residents. " Liverpool crime prevention officer Matt Bonomo, with the guide of volunteers, has led a letterbox drop of flyers with tips to aid residents avoid being targeted by thieves. He said residents should ensure their garage door is locked and watch out for suspicious people. The flyer also lists relevant phone numbers to call - 9821 8444 for Liverpool police station or 000 for emergencies. "At that time we must of handed out between 300 and 400 flyers so we will do the same this time. Liverpool crime manager Danny Doherty said 26 reports were made last week. "It's all about target hardening - making it difficult for thieves to break in and deterring them from targeting your property," he said. Thieves are breaking in and stealing items in storage and parked cars. "The worst-hit streets were in the Riverpark Drive, Castlereagh St and Goulburn St areas. "We had a handful more made last Wednesday," Det Insp Doherty said. "We had a spate of these unit block garage robberies just over two months ago and the letterbox drop we did then seemed to really help," Constable Bonomo said. Det Insp Doherty said there would be extra patrols. |
