Help at hand for solar 'scam' pair

Three companies have stepped in, to provide and install Solar Panels for Patricia and Dennis Jennings, after they lost "1,500 to another company. ".

Great-grandparents Patricia and Dennis Jennings, of Balby, were left seething after they shelled out the money to Yorkshire Solar Panels Ltd but the company appeared to do a runner before any work was done.

Speaking about supplying the panels, United Kingdom general manager for Libra Energy Paul Bradbury, said: "We were discussing it and we decided we may actually do something to help.

THREE Doncaster companies have stepped in to save the day after the Free Press uncovered the heart-breaking story of a couple apparently conned out of £1,500. I was amazed at how many other people came forward that also appeared to have been scammed.

Richard Dunn, installations manager at QC Scaffolding, added: "We're all local lads at local firms and we want to look out for local people.

After reading their story in the Free Press, appalled bosses at Libra Energy United Kingdom Ltd in Thorne, Green Energy Solutions UK Ltd in Bentley and Doncaster's QC Scaffolding clubbed together to buy and install the panels free-of-charge - work which would normally cost more than £4,000.

She said: "I never expected anything like this.

"From our point of view, it puts a dark stain on the industry and we want to get the message out that there are reputable companies out there.

After our first story a fortnight ago, the Free Press last week revealed that our article had led to tens of calls from other furious customers about the company prompting trading standards to launch an investigation.

The panels will be installed by Green Energy Solutions whose managing director Marcus Payne said: "It's disgraceful what they went through.

Cancer victim Patricia, 65, and Dennis, 68, of Goldsmith Road, have praised all three companies for their generosity.

"It paints the solar industry in a bad light and we decided to do something about it.

She added: "If it hadn't been for the Free Press, this would not have got out there.

Despite repeated calls nobody from Yorkshire Solar Panels has been available for comment.
