Residents Celebrate Renovation of Their Park

Edgeside and District Residents' Association (ESDRA) with help from Rossendale charity REAL secured £50,000 from Groundwork Community Spaces to create the new play park at Edgeside Park, Waterfoot. He said: "I often help my grandad in his garden.

"I am looking forward to being able to play on the new playground.

In the park a multitude of local businesses were represented from Funtastic Inflatable Water Walkers to Rossendale Pennine Adventure who offered bike maintenance and Flash Bang Science.

The next big event on the park will be a music festival in July organised by the White Horse Project.

The Lancashire branch of North Wales Bird Trust brought some rescued owls along, Hedgehog Rescue brought hedgehogs and Rossendale Lions held a teddy tombola and helped plant the hedgerow which will surround the park.

Water Band, Water Primary School Choir, Bashful Drummers and singer Stephanie Aspinall, who won a local talent competition, provided entertainment.

"I hope the area will be open in a couple of weeks and I know the children will enjoy the new equipment, but please can they be patient until a play safety check has been carried out. It was pretty simple to plant and I am really happy that I have my own tree.

As well as fruit trees supplied by the Woodlands' Trust, the hedge will also have a herb border, planted by volunteers and Incredible Edible Rossendale.
